Special school close to Glastonbury is given go head to more than double the number of pupils

In planning news in and around Glastonbury this week:
Planners have approved plans for Abbots Way School which is at 52 St Marys Road in Meare near Glastonbury to increase the number of pupils. The school applied to increase to maximum number of pupils permitted from 15 to 40, relocate and improve the site access and enlarge the existing parking area. The school Abbots Way School is a special needs facility for pupils with dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia. Because of its specialist nature the school has a far wider catchment area than a standard village school. Planners agreed that the school can expand but not until work has been completed. It stated : " No more than 15 pupils shall be registered to attend the school until the new access has been constructed and laid out in accordance with the submitted plan." In its application, which had overwhelming support from scores of comments, the school reported that it has pupils from all across Somerset, as far away as Ilminster, and Bath and North East Somerset. In other planning decisions, an application for approval of details reserved by conditions 3 (cladding materials), 4 (hard and soft landscaping), 5 (refuse and recycling storage) and 6 (boundary treatment) on planning consent 2017/2291/FUL for the Dutch Barn adjacent to Coopers Cottage Laverley in West PennardRef. No: 2021/2302/APP, has been approved.
While over in Shepton Mallet, the council's application to put up 25 pedestrian wayfinding signs, some free standing and some wall
mounted has been given the go-head. The signs will feature points of interest in the town and help encourage visitors to explore.
