An illegal rave in Glastonbury's Northover area caused residents misery over the weekend.

A field at Northover, not far from the Red Brick Building was illegally, and unexpectedly transformed into a concert venue on Sunday, 18th June.

Several hundred people gathered for an unauthorised music event that caused considerable disruption, prompting local police intervention.

Police say they are trying to identify those responsible for the gathering.

"We received multiple reports yesterday concerning the unsanctioned event in Northover. Our officers were dispatched immediately," a police spokesperson said. As law enforcement arrived, the size of the crowd began to decrease. "

We estimate that several hundred people were initially in attendance. However, the crowd size reduced significantly as the day wore on. Our main goal was to ensure the event was brought to a safe conclusion," said the police spokesperson.

Although police maintained a regular presence to deter any more people from accessing the site, the spontaneous gathering had a significant impact on nearby residents who took to social media to complain about loud music which went on through the night.

"We recognise the inconvenience this unauthorised event caused to the local residents. We extend our sincere apologies for the disruption," the police spokesperson added.

Moving forward, the police are taking steps to prevent future disruptions. "Neighbourhood officers will liaise with the landowner to strengthen the site's security. Our aim is to deter similar incidents in the future," the spokesperson noted.

Plice are also urging residents to remain vigilant for signs of potential unauthorised gatherings. "We always encourage residents to be alert for early signs of an unauthorised event and to promptly notify us. This includes situations like an unusual number of vehicles arriving at a remote location late at night, or seeing sound equipment being unloaded," said the police spokesperson.

"Early intervention is the most efficient way of stopping such events and maintaining the peace and safety of our community."
