High-risk residents in Street and Glastonbury urged to get spring COVID booster before 17 June deadline

The NHS is urging people in Street and Glastonbury with weakened immune systems to get their spring COVID-19 booster jab before the offer ends on Tuesday 17 June.
Since the rollout began on 1 April, more than 53,000 spring boosters have been delivered across Somerset. But health officials say uptake among those most at risk is worryingly low, with 70% of eligible people in the county still unvaccinated.
The booster is available to people at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19, including those undergoing chemotherapy, people with blood cancer or HIV, organ transplant recipients, and anyone taking immunosuppressant medication.
Mike Kelly, Vaccination Programme Lead at NHS Somerset, said: "We are concerned that many people who need the vaccine most are missing out. Whether you've been immunosuppressed for years or were only recently diagnosed with cancer, you're entitled to a COVID-19 vaccination. It's essential protection, and it's easy to access."
Appointments can be booked at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccine or by calling 119. Walk-in clinics are also running across Somerset – find the nearest one at: nhs.uk/walk-in-vaccination
The NHS is reminding residents that the spring booster offer will close on Tuesday 17 June.
