Armed police training exercise underway in Street today – here's what to expect

Residents in Street may notice a higher-than-usual police presence today (Wednesday 21 May) as emergency services take part in a live training exercise in and around the town.
The exercise is being carried out across several locations in Street and Langport, and members of the public are being advised in advance that they may see firearms-trained officers, hear sirens, shouting or loud bangs, and notice an increase in emergency service activity.
Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed there is no risk to public safety, and the event is part of a pre-planned operation to test how emergency services and partner agencies respond to a variety of incidents.
High-visibility control staff will be on the ground throughout the day to offer reassurance to anyone nearby or with questions.
The training is expected to finish by late afternoon, and police say they will continue to respond to all other incidents as normal while the exercise is underway.
"These exercises are a vital part of our ongoing training programme," a police spokesperson said. "They help ensure we are fully prepared for a range of emergency situations."
