Glastonbury Town Council says scaffolding will remain around the town's historic Market Cross while repair plans are agreed. The council said a structural engineer has now completed a detailed inspection of the Grade II listed structure.

The report from the inspection has been passed to a specialist stonemason, according to the council. Because the Market Cross is listed, the town council said it is also working closely with Somerset Council's conservation officer to agree the most appropriate approach to the repairs.

In an update to residents, Glastonbury Town Council said: "Thank you to everyone for your patience while the scaffolding remains around Glastonbury's historic Market Cross." It added that there is not yet a timescale for when the scaffolding will be removed.

The Market Cross stands in the centre of Glastonbury and is one of the town's most familiar landmarks. Its listed status means repair work must be considered carefully, with specialist advice needed before the council can move to the next stage.

The council said it would continue to keep the community updated as the project progresses. No further details of the inspection findings or the required repairs were included in the update seen by Nub News.
