Whether you're plotting a grand career move or just mildly curious what the neighbours are up to between 9 and 5, there's something oddly soothing about a job hunt. Here's this week's mix of local roles that might tempt you to dust off the CV, or at least imagine a life where someone else does the washing up.
If you can wield a wooden spoon with purpose and don't balk at the phrase "dietary requirements," Somerset Care is hiring a Cook at Millbrook Gardens in Castle Cary. It's full-time (40 hours), permanent, and pays £13.50/hr on weekdays and a beefier £14.55/hr on weekends. Shifts run 8am–7pm, four days a week. You'll need experience in a care setting and either a Level 2 catering qualification or serious kitchen chops. Bonus points if you can plate peas with flair.
Thrive Group is after HGV Class 2 Drivers for local clients in and around Shepton Mallet. It's a permanent gig with flexible hours and a decent £17/hr rate. You'll need the right licence and the stamina to navigate local lanes without losing your cool. No mention of radio choice, but safe to assume you're DJ of the cab.

Gregory Distribution is recruiting an HGV Technician, also in Shepton Mallet. This is a permanent, full-time role on a two-week rotation pattern (exact hours not listed) with a tidy £40k salary. If your toolbox is better organised than your sock drawer, and you know your axle from your elbow, it could be worth a look.
Over in Glasto, Hillarys is recruiting a Blinds and Curtains Installer. This is technically self-employed, but they promise flexible hours, local work, and up to £50k a year, which is not to be sniffed at. You'll need a ladder and a bit of DIY common sense, but it's a chance to be your own boss without starting a podcast.

A local care team is looking for a Community Care Worker to support folks in Street, Glastonbury and nearby villages. Shifts are 7am–2pm and 3:45pm–10pm (yes, that gap in the middle is real life). Pay starts at £12.85/hr on weekdays and nudges up to £13.50/hr at weekends, with mileage, training and a generous holiday allowance. If you're kind, unflappable, and partial to a strong brew, this one's for you.
Thrive Shepton is hiring an Assembly Operative for morning shifts in Wells (temp-to-perm). The pay is a not-too-shabby £15.65/hr and the job involves weighing, assembling and quality checking ready meals. Fast-paced but not rocket science. Just don't eat the stock.
