The Red Brick Building Community Garden has been honoured with two major accolades at this year's South West in Bloom awards, cementing its reputation as a standout community space in Glastonbury.

The garden team achieved 'Level 5 – Outstanding,' the highest recognition possible in the competition, celebrating their commitment to environmental stewardship, community involvement, and the promotion of organic gardening for wellbeing.

Adding to the achievement, the team was also awarded the 'Inclusive Gardening Award.' This coveted accolade, given to only four projects across the South West, recognises the garden as an "outstanding example of gardening inclusivity, opportunity, and involvement." The award highlights the garden's work in welcoming people of all abilities and backgrounds, especially those who may face barriers due to physical or intellectual disabilities or who belong to marginalised groups.

Beverley Smith, Enterprise Co-ordinator at the Red Brick Building, said, "We are incredibly proud of our Community Garden team for this extraordinary achievement, especially Adam, David, John, Ryan and Sarah. These awards reflect their hard work, creativity, and dedication to making the garden a place where everyone feels welcome and valued."

The awards also brought success to Glastonbury in Bloom, which won Gold in the 'Champion of Champions' category and 'Best Interpretation of Art in the Landscape' award, celebrating the town's creative approach to community beautification.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the Community Garden, located at the Red Brick Building, where Thursdays and Fridays are particularly active with garden projects underway. A visit to the site can be paired with coffee and cake at the Old Tannery, while visitors can learn about the range of offerings at the Red Brick Building, from hot desks and office space to events and classes.

For those interested in getting involved, the garden hosts a weekly volunteering session every Friday from 11am to 2pm. For more information, contact Beverley Smith at [email protected].
