Glastonbury will host a traditional wassail celebration at The Middlewick on Sunday 11 January 2026, inviting families to take part in a centuries‑old Somerset custom of blessing apple trees.
The afternoon event includes a short history of wassailing, a procession and a ceremony to toast and bless the orchard's apple trees.
Wassailing is a winter ritual rooted in wishing good fortune and a bountiful harvest for the year ahead. Participants place cider‑soaked toast in the branches of apple trees, sing traditional songs, pour cider at the roots and make plenty of noise with pots and pans to "wake up" the trees and scare off evil spirits.
Warm cider or mulled apple juice and sausage rolls will be served, and the event is suitable for all ages.
Adults are charged £10 and children £5, with children needing to be accompanied by an adult. Booking is advised to secure places.
