Glastonbury Residents Rally for Palestinian Solidarity

Pro-Palestine campaigners staged a rally in Glastonbury this weekend to show support for the Palestinians following the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The group visited several shops and businesses along the High Street, successfully persuading many to display a 'Ceasefire Now' Palestinian flag or a 'Free Palestine' sticker.

The day's activities culminated with an event at St Benedict's Church, organised by Tim Williams. Titled "They Had Names," the event was a tribute to the 12,500 children who have lost their lives in Gaza since 7th October. It featured the lighting of candles, visual displays, and the reading of names and ages of the deceased children.

Tim Williams commented on the international impact of the event, saying, "Photos of our event have reached the West Bank. People there know we are here for them. I find that very moving."

Community members interested in supporting the cause can join the Glastonbury Palestine Solidarity Campaign on Facebook. The group hosts daily demonstrations at the Market Cross from 11am. Additionally, an event is scheduled for 27th January, Holocaust Remembrance Day, at 2.30 pm at the Market Cross. Organised by Glastonbury Independent Alliance, it aims to stand against the rise of the far right on local, national, and international levels.
