A Virtual Summer Solstice event is being held in Glastonbury as the town looks to celebrate while urging tourists to not visit until it is more safe to do so.

From 4.30am to 10.30am on Sunday June 21, a host of community events have been planned, and there will be a live stream of the solstice sunrise.

Last week, Glastonbury Town Council urged visitors to stay away from the town during the Summer Solstice, saying it needed to still protect the local community.

The virtual event, hosted by the Glastonbury Information Centre, is in response to that plea, so people can still enjoy the solstice from Glastonbury, but from the comfort of their own home.

The sunrise will be a 4.55am, and following this there will be a multi-faith ceremony and family activities, including singing, crafts and music.

For more information about the virtual solstice, you can visit the Facebook event page here, where you will receive notifications on how to stream.

There is also a Virtual Summer Solstice Tent (Facebook Group) where local businesses will be offering Solstice Specials. You can find that here.
