Glastonbury's much-loved Christmas Day lunch is still on — but the traditional town hall meal is off the menu this year.
Councillors confirmed at the latest town council meeting that the big community bash, which once dished up 350 dinners, won't return in its usual form after key organisers stepped down. The festive feast has run for four years, powered by a volunteer crew with council support.
"This lunch has really served our community," said Cllr Zoe Price. "It's been a warm space for those who had nowhere else to go — but this year we simply don't have the people power to run it on that scale."
Instead, two alternative venues will open their doors on 25 December:
- St Benedict's Church will run its regular Thursday gathering in the Festival Hall atrium
- United Reformed Church will host a bring-a-dish celebration from 2 pm to 10 pm with open mic acts and festive refreshments
Volunteers are still needed to support both events. Organisers say they hope the full town hall lunch can return in future — and paid tribute to the many locals who've peeled spuds, poured brews and scrubbed pans over the years.
