The streets of Glastonbury were filled with lights, music, and excitement last night as the 2024 Glastonbury Carnival brought the Somerset carnival circuit to a dazzling close. Clubs from across the region delivered stunning displays, with local clubs Masqueraders, Wick, and King William making their mark alongside Somerset's finest.

Masqueraders Carnival Club stole the show in the Feature Mounted (Local) category with their captivating entry, Step Right Up, which blended intricate design with creative flair to secure first place. Wick Carnival Club also impressed in the same category, taking third place with their lively Bourbon Street cart, inspired by the vibrancy of New Orleans. Meanwhile, King William Carnival Club triumphed in the Tableaux Mounted (Local) category, earning the top spot for their imaginative and thought-provoking float, The Pop Up Library.

The Feature Mounted (Open) category saw fierce competition, with Ramblers Carnival Club taking first place for their dazzling entry, Pinball. Gremlins Carnival Club's Beatles-inspired float, Beatlemania, followed closely in second place, while Renegades Carnival Club's The Manor secured third.

Huckyduck Carnival Club delivered an impressive win in the Tableaux Mounted (Open) category with their tribute to Brunel. Pentathlon Carnival Club's Outlaws and Wills Carnival Club's Roald Dahl's Imagination followed in second and third place, respectively.

Comic entries brought plenty of laughs, with Newmarket Carnival Club's Tour De Somerset earning first place. Nunsford Nutters' Nee Naw and Luckington Carnival Club's Drag Tastic rounded out the top three with their playful and entertaining displays.

Rubalo Junior Carnival Club captured hearts in the Juvenile Cart category with their entry, Birds of Paradise, claiming the top spot. Hillview Junior Carnival Club's Country Kidz and Next Generation Juvenile Carnival Club's Bugsy Malone followed in second and third places, adding to the evening's colourful celebrations.

Groups of Masqueraders also impressed the crowds, with Bridgwater Belles winning the adult or mixed category for their entry, Totally Bonkers (A Gathering of Hatters). The juvenile division saw Dragonfly Leisure Dance take first place with their enchanting performance of Drop Dead Gorgeous.

The Single Masquerader categories showcased individual creativity, with Jacks Carnival Club taking first place in the adult division for their float, Ragtime, and Little R claiming the juvenile title with Silver Bail.

The carnival season's final evening in Glastonbury brought the circuit to a spectacular conclusion, with local clubs like Masqueraders, Wick, and King William demonstrating the strength of the town's carnival tradition. Their entries, alongside those from other Somerset clubs, illuminated the streets and left audiences in awe.

As the Somerset carnival circuit draws to a close, Glastonbury can celebrate another successful event that captured the creativity, talent, and community spirit the county is renowned for.
