Glastonbury humour company Go La La has won the Judge's Vote at the 2021 Gift of the Year awards, with its Filthy Gorgeous soap range scoring a big hit with the judging panel.

The fun soaps also won the Novelty category which was revealed in a pre-recorded ceremony alongside other finalists.

A total of 70 judges scrutinised more than 700 entries across 22 categories and selected 92 finalists from which Go La La was chosen as the overall winner.

Based in Glastonbury, the company was established in 2016 as a greeting card publisher.

The Filthy Gorgeous soap range was created as a fun B2C project during the first lockdown and the gift quickly went on to become something of a hit with the company's trade customers.

After promoting the funny bars on social media, Go La La found increased contact from shop buyers wanting to stock its humour product despite the difficult trading circumstances.

Go La La Co-founder, Laura Kavanagh, said: "Buyers recognised the great credentials of these bars - ethical and natural to which we applied our irreverent brand of humour.

"They really are uplifting in every sense."

Having quickly realised that their product had significant commercial demand, Laura, alongside husband and business co-owner John, felt that they needed to cement it as a recognised and substantial gift offering.

She said: "We knew that entering it into the revered Gift of the Year awards was the very best way to give it some credibility and have it shown to a wider audience.

"When we heard we'd be shortlisted in two categories and then made the finals for the Novelty category, we were blown away. We then learned we'd won the Novelty category and were more than ecstatic.

"But then soon after that, we were told that we'd secured the top prize and won the Judge's Vote. The celebrations haven't really stopped since."

After taking the top prize, Laura and John, are looking at building the brand even further.

"We have some very exciting work ahead of us and lots of opportunities to build upon," Laura said.

"Entering the Gift of the Year competition has been a brilliant experience and we are so grateful to the Giftware Association for all their support.

"We love that our products have such feel-good qualities and that during these tough times, they are spreading a lot of fun and giving people a really good laugh. God knows, we all need that right now."
