Glastonbury broadband upgrade as Openreach rolls out full fibre
By Laura Linham 10th Feb 2026
Openreach has started building a full fibre broadband network across Glastonbury, bringing some of the fastest and most reliable internet available to local homes and businesses. The work, now underway in streets across the town, is expected to reach the majority of properties and allow residents to connect multiple devices at gigabit‑capable speeds.
The upgrade replaces older copper‑based broadband with fibre running directly to premises, promising more consistent speeds, fewer faults and greater capacity for growing digital demands. Openreach said it aims to minimise disruption by using existing ducts and poles where possible, but some new street infrastructure may be needed to ensure full coverage.
Martin Williams, Openreach Partnership Director, said the scheme was a major investment in local connectivity and part of the company's broader efforts to expand full fibre coverage and reduce its environmental impact. Local people can register for updates and check when services will be available at their address through Openreach's online portal.
Across the UK, Openreach's full fibre network already reaches more than 21 million properties, with plans to extend this to 25 million by the end of 2026 and potentially 30 million by 2030 if investment conditions allow.
