Glastonbury's Brewers Fayre is expected to close after dinner service on Monday, 7 September, as Whitbread pushes ahead with major cuts to its restaurant estate.

The restaurant was named earlier this year among the Brewers Fayre sites earmarked for closure.

Whitbread, which owns Premier Inn, is closing more than 200 branded restaurant sites across the UK. The closures include Brewers Fayre, Beefeater, Table Table, Cookhouse + Pub and Bar + Block restaurants.

Brewers Fayre sites are expected to close after dinner service on Monday, 7 September.

The company announced the wider plan earlier this year as part of a five-year strategy to cut costs and focus more heavily on its hotel business. Whitbread has said it wants to move away from standalone branded restaurants and create more food and drink space within Premier Inn hotels.

The group said in April that around 3,800 jobs would be affected across the UK and Ireland.

Whitbread chief executive Dominic Paul said at the time that the company had reviewed its options in response to "significant cost increases".

Whitbread has not confirmed what will happen to the Glastonbury restaurant space after the closure.
