Full service station with EV chargers and jet wash planned for Street garage site

Plans are in to turn the old Abbey Garage site in Street into a full-blown service station — with fuel pumps, a jet wash hub and electric vehicle charging bays.
NTS Motor Fuel Ltd has lodged the application to build a new forecourt, sales building and twin jet wash bays at 189 High Street. The site, once home to a petrol station and car dealership, would also get EV chargers, car parking and bike bays.
The developer says the plot is perfect for a comeback, pointing to its roadside location and previous garage use. Earlier plans for housing on the site have been dropped.
The layout would include three pump islands, underground fuel tanks, two EV charging bays with room to expand, and a convenience shop. Two jet washes, vacuum and air stations, and customer parking are all part of the package.
Noise and light plans aim to calm any neighbour concerns — with jet wash use limited to 6am to 11pm and lighting designed to stay within the site. Screening and planting are also proposed to soften the impact.
Planners will now weigh the scheme against local rules on reuse of brownfield land, traffic and design, as well as its fit with green goals.
