The Environment Agency has issued an alert to warn that flooding is expected this morning (January 15) on the Glastonbury to Meare road.

The agency has issued a Be Prepared flood alert for the Rivers Brue, Sheppey, Glastonbury Millstream and North and South Drains.

A spokesperson for the agency said: "River levels have risen at the Clyse Hole and Lovington river gauges as a result of persistent rainfall yesterday and overnight.

"Consequently, flooding of properties, low lying land and roads is possible this morning. We expect flooding to affect the B3151 Glastonbury to Meare Road.

"Overtopping is forecast from the Glastonbury Millstream and the River Brue at North Drain and Westhay.

"A flood warning has been issued for the River Brue and Glastonbury Millstream from Lovington to Highbridge.

"No further rainfall is forecast today and we expect river levels to begin falling later this morning. We are closely monitoring the situation."
