If you've looked out of your window this morning, you can't fail to have noticed that it's a bit damp out there.

The Met Office has issue a yellow weather warning, with serious flooding expected in various parts of the county today.

The Environment Agency has issued multiple flood warnings and alerts for areas around Somerset, advising residents in low-lying regions and near watercourses to prepare for imminent risks.

Baltonsborough CE VC Primary School and Butleigh CofE Primary School, along with West Pennard CofE Primary School, are facing significant disruptions due to flooding.

A spokesperson for Baltonsborough Primary noted that of the three access routes to the school, two are already impassable, with the third at risk of becoming so due to runoff from nearby fields. Butleigh CofE Primary School has announced closure from 12pm today because of the flooding in and around the area. Meanwhile, West Pennard CofE Primary School is contending with its own challenges as the constant rain has led to flooding, rendering three classrooms and the main hall inaccessible.

Current flood warnings, indicating expected flooding and immediate necessary action, cover the River Brue, Glastonbury Millstream, and the River Parrett. Additionally, flood alerts are in place for the Mid Bristol Avon area, the River Chew, the River Biss, West Somerset Streams, and rivers in south-east Somerset. These alerts are precautionary measures indicating possible flooding.

In Street, the heavy rain has turned parts of Gravenchon Way into a paddling pool and affected the car parks of Sainsbury's, Lidl, and McDonald's.

The potential for flooding poses a significant risk to people's property. Residents in areas with flood warnings should act promptly to mitigate damage. Recommended actions include moving vehicles to higher ground, relocating family members and pets to safety, securing valuable items on upper floors, and installing flood barriers and air-brick covers. The Environment Agency also advises those in affected areas to turn off gas, electricity, and water supplies as a safety measure.

For residents in areas under flood alert, it is crucial to prepare for potential evacuation. This includes packing a bag with essentials such as medicines, insurance documents, and other critical items. Staying updated with the latest flood warnings is vital for timely action.
