The Bayliss Centre in Street, has been temporarily closed today following an electrical fire that ignited beneath the pavement of the centre.

The incident has prompted responses from local businesses and emergency services, with efforts underway to safely resolve the situation.

Peggy's Diner, one of the affected businesses within the centre, reported early this morning: "Due to an electrical fire under the pavement of the centre, the Bayliss Centre is temporarily closed. We are awaiting the national grid/gas board to rectify the problem before we can enter the building. The fire service has been on site since 6 am. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to be back up and running very soon."

An update from the diner added, "Just had a phone call from the Fire Brigade; we will be allowed access within the hour to our premises, but the electricity is likely to be off until 4 pm as National Grid have to replace a transformer as it's burnt out."

Similarly, P&K Meats, another business located at the Bayliss Centre, informed their customers: "Due to an electrical fire under the pavement of the centre, the Bayliss Centre is temporarily closed. We are awaiting the national grid/gas board to rectify the problem before we can enter the building. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to be back up and running very soon."

Street Fire Station issued a warning to residents and visitors: "We are currently in attendance of an electrical fire in Street High Street at the Bayliss Centre! Please avoid the area if possible."
