Commercial Building Fire at Tynings Lane, Charterhouse, Cheddar

Date: 24.05.2018Time: 02:40Location: Tynings Lane, Charterhouse, CheddarDevon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting a fire at the above location.

Fire control immediately mobilised one fire appliance from Cheddar backed up with two appliances from Avon Fire and Rescue Service.

Whilst proceeding to the incident, the first appliance confirmed a large fire which they believed to be a workshop and immediately made pumps 4. This additional appliance was sent from Wells along with a specialist support officer.

Once in attendance the Incident Commander confirmed one workshop measuring approx. 20m x 40m well alight and requested two further fire appliances which were sent from Wells and Yatton, an aerial ladder platform which was sent from Taunton and a water carrier which was sent from Bridgwater.

At 0316hrs crews were working with 4 breathing apparatus wearers, 2 attack jets and 1 covering jet.

At 0330hrs crews confirmed one two storey workshop fully involved in fire. Breathing apparatus wearers have been withdrawn from the building due to the extent of the fire and crews are working externally using 2 attack jets.

At 0354hrs the Incident Commander has made pumps 8 at this incident for additional manpower. These appliances have been sent from Glastonbury and Chew Magna.

At 0407hrs crews have now re-entered the building to dampen down using 2 breathing apparatus wearers and one 45mm jet.

At 0538hrs crews are making steady progress with the fire. A water shuttle has been set up using a water carrier and dam. The aerial ladder platform is in place with crews using a further 4 breathing apparatus wearers and 2 attack jets.

Incident is ongoing...

Due to a large smoke plume from this incident, residents within the area are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
