Clarks Village in Street, has released its inaugural Impact Report, highlighting its contributions to the local economy, society and environment.

The report marks a milestone for Clarks Village as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. As the UK's first shopping outlet, the retail destination now boasts over 90 retailers, ranging from high street favourites like M&S and Next to designer brands such as Levis and Radley.

More than a shopping hub, Clarks Village employs 880 individuals and has become an integral part of the Somerset community. Since 2019, the outlet has generated over £116,000 in social value and supported 148 local residents through various educational and employment initiatives.

Funded by its owner Landsec, Clarks Village has launched Landsec Futures, a £20m social impact fund aimed at enhancing local communities. The fund will facilitate bursaries, internships, and community grants, among other initiatives. It will also collaborate with Key4Life, a local charity focussed on rehabilitating young people who have left school early or are refusing to attend.

Sustainability also features prominently in the outlet's strategy. Committed to becoming a net-zero carbon business by 2040, Clarks Village is already purchasing 100% renewable electricity and recycles over 70% of its waste. In addition, it has made efforts to maintain biodiverse green spaces within the outlet.

New research from Landsec indicates that brands in sustainable retail destinations could potentially see a 13% revenue increase over a decade, compared to those in traditional retail spaces. This could also lead to a 6% rise in overall footfall, contributing up to £100m to local economies.

Chris Davis, Centre Director at Clarks Village, said: "As a shopping outlet, we constantly strive to ensure we deliver a sustainable future which meets our guests' expectations and create added value for our local community, customers, colleagues, and partners. Our purpose sits at the heart of everything we do, in the way we create sustainable places, realise potential and serve a vibrant community."
