Street school patrols flag parking and seat belt fears
By Laura Linham 18th Mar 2026
Police patrols outside schools in Street have flagged concerns over poor parking and seat belt use during the school run. Officers have been out supporting pupils, parents and staff during the busy drop-off period, but say some drivers are still putting children at risk.
Concerns were raised over parking near school entrances, where unsafe or inconsiderate stopping can reduce visibility and create unnecessary hazards. Drivers are being reminded to park legally, avoid blocking driveways or crossings and leave extra time for the run to school.
Officers also spoke to motorists about seat belt use. The message from police was clear - adults and children alike should be wearing a seat belt on every journey, no matter how short.
The patrols were aimed at keeping school communities safe at one of the busiest times of the day. With families, staff and children all arriving at once, even a brief stop in the wrong place can create danger outside the school gates.
Police thanked those who continue to follow the rules and set a good example. Anyone with concerns about parking or road safety around schools in Street is being urged to contact their local neighbourhood policing team.
