Castle Cary trains disrupted after person struck on line
By Laura Linham 21st Oct 2026
A person has been struck by a train between Taunton and Castle Cary, bringing services through the affected area to a stop on Wednesday, 21 October.
GWR said all lines were blocked while emergency services responded. Passengers were warned that trains could be cancelled, delayed or diverted, with journeys potentially taking up to 90 minutes longer.
In a statement issued during the morning, a GWR spokesperson said: "A person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked.
"It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop."
The operator said it was working with Network Rail and emergency services at the scene. Replacement buses, coaches and taxis have not been requested at this stage, although the situation is being monitored.
Passengers travelling from Castle Cary or connecting with services through Taunton should check their individual train before setting out. Passengers whose trains are cancelled can travel on either of the two services before or after their original departure without paying extra.
Updates and departure information are available through GWR's journey checker and National Rail.
The condition of the person struck by the train has not been confirmed.
Anyone affected by the incident can contact Samaritans free of charge on 116 123.
