By-election of Butleigh and Baltonsborough – all you need to know

There will be a by-election on Thursday, October 6, to elect a Mendip District councillor for Butleigh and Baltonsborough ward.
The notice of election was published on the Council's website on September 1 here: www.mendip.gov.uk/article/10641/Elections-2022
If you would like to stand in the by-election, please ensure you hand your completed nomination papers to the Returning Officer at Mendip District Council from Friday 2 – Friday 9 September. The opening hours will be 10am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-4pm (excluding Saturday and Sunday).

The deadline for new postal vote and postal proxy applications, and for changes to existing postal or postal proxy votes, is 5pm on 21 September. And the deadline for receiving new applications to vote by proxy (not postal proxy or emergency proxies) is 5pm on 28 September.
The election itself will take place on Thursday, October 6 from 7am-10pm. The polling stations will be at Butleigh Village Hall, Baltonsborough Village Hall and West Lydford Village Hall. The Butleigh and Baltonsborough by-election has been called following the death of Cllr Nigel Woollcombe-Adams in July. He'd served as a councillor for 35 years. In paying tribute, members across all political parties described him as a 'perfect gentleman'.
