Armed police swoop after shot fired from van in Glastonbury

Armed officers from Avon and Somerset Police arrested two men in Glastonbury on Thursday afternoon following a report of a shot fired from a van.
The incident was first reported at about 2.20 pm on Leg of Mutton Road, where a caller claimed a weapon had been discharged. No injuries were reported.
Due to the nature of the report, armed police were deployed alongside the National Police Air Service helicopter, which circled over the town as officers carried out a rapid search of the area.
A van was later located on Sandpits Road, where officers arrested an 18‑year‑old man and a 21‑year‑old man within the hour. Police say a suspected air‑weapon was recovered from a vehicle at the scene.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Two men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences following a report of a weapon being discharged from a van in Glastonbury on Thursday afternoon.
"The incident was reported at around 2.20pm on Leg of Mutton Road. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. Armed officers attended and, following a search of the area, two arrests were made on Sandpits Road. A suspected air weapon was recovered from a vehicle."
The men remain in custody while enquiries continue.
Officers are appealing for witnesses — in particular anyone who saw the incident or who may have relevant dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage.
