Abandoned vehicles and burnt-out caravans removed as Glastonburys total rises to 142
By Laura Linham 1st Oct 2026
Glastonbury's caravan count has climbed to 142 despite abandoned vehicles and burnt-out wreckage being cleared away during September.
One of the town's county councillors, Ewan Cameron, says the increase comes amid concerns about criminals exploiting vulnerable people through the supply of caravans.
The latest monthly count breaks a three-month downward trend.
Somerset Council removed four abandoned vehicles and the remains of three caravans destroyed by fire during September.
Cllr Cameron said the figures suggested an actual increase of around 15 caravans. He said it's believed that arson attacks on caravans are linked to drugs or drug dealing and said neighbourhood police were continuing their investigations.
Cllr Cameron said Avon and Somerset Police were investigating organised criminal activity around Glastonbury. He urged anyone with information about caravan supply involving exploitation to contact Crimestoppers, which accepts anonymous reports.
Residents are also being asked to report abandoned vehicles so the council can investigate. Reports can be submitted through Somerset Council's abandoned vehicle service.
