Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash involving a minibus and a car which shut the A39 in both directions this morning.

Emergency services were called to the collision at 7.13am on Thursday 15 May, on the stretch of Bath Road between Berhill and West End in Walton, near Street.

Police, fire and ambulance crews responded swiftly, closing the road while both vehicles were recovered. The drivers of the minibus and the car were both taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to Main Street, Walton, Street, at 7.40am following a collision involving a car and a minibus. One casualty in the car was being treated by paramedics and our crew made sure the vehicles were in a safe condition."

The road was fully reopened shortly after 9am, but not before the closure caused long delays on key commuter routes into and out of Street.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "At 7.13am today (15 May) we received a report of a collision involving a minibus and a car on the A39 in Walton.

"Officers attended alongside the ambulance service and closed the road between its junctions with West End and Berhill. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that are neither believed to be life-threatening nor life-changing.

"The vehicles have been recovered and the road reopened shortly after 9am. Anyone with information should call 101 and use the reference number 5225135509."

Drivers were urged to avoid the area during the incident, with congestion backing up around the McDonald's roundabout in Street and towards the Pipers Inn at Ashcott.
