The A361 near Glastonbury is closed after a lorry fire on Edgarley Road. Somerset Council issued a travel alert at around 10 am, warning drivers to avoid the area and allow extra time for journeys.

Traffic updates from the AA show the road is blocked and traffic is slow in both directions. The disruption is affecting the stretch between Edgarley Field Lane and Cinnamon Lane.

FromeBus has also issued an update for passengers using the 669 service. The operator said the route is being diverted via Wells while the A361 near Glastonbury remains closed.

The bus company said: "Route 669 — Due to a lorry fire closing the A361 near Glastonbury the 669 service will divert via Wells. Therefore, Pilton and West Pennard will not be served during this time."

Delays were still being reported later this morning, with the road closure continuing following the fire. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area where possible while emergency services deal with the incident.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 8.15am to a lorry fire on Edgarley Road, Glastonbury, very close to a building owned by Millfield School.

"We sent two fire engines and a water carrier, police also attended to manage traffic and a road closure was in place. The vehicle was well alight on the main road, and the driver was safely out of the vehicle.

"Crews are using breathing apparatus and water jets primarily to protect the nearby building.
