Glastonbury Abbey isn't hosting a Christmas event in 2021 but there is plenty going on at the site in the lead up to Christmas and New Year.

Here is a full guide into what is open when, details of car parking, and what the abbey is doing in relation to the Frost Fayre.

Visiting the abbey

Glastonbury Abbey will be open from 10am to 4pm throughout the Christmas period apart from being closed on Christmas Day itself. Enjoy a guided tour, our museum and buy that special something from the gift shop. Hot drinks are available from the gift shop throughout the Christmas period. Tickets to the abbey can be bought online in advance or at the abbey upon arrival.

Christmas parking

The Glastonbury Abbey owned car park in Silver Street will offer free parking in the lead up to Christmas and also on New Year's day this festive season. From Saturday the 18th of December to Friday the 24th of December inclusive, the Silver Street car park will be free of charge to visitors who would like to visit the abbey, do some Christmas shopping or meet friends in town for some Christmas cheer. The car park will also be free of charge in support of Small Business Saturday on the 4th of December. The Silver Street car park is close to the High Street and its many shops.

Like all Mendip council operated car parks in Glastonbury, the Silver Street car park will also be free all day on January 1st, 2022.

If you're coming to Glastonbury for the abbey's New Year's Eve show at the town hall you can drive in and then come and collect your car the next day without having to worry about parking charges. The postcode for the car park is BA6 8BS.

Frost Fayre

Glastonbury Abbey will have free entry from 10am to 6pm on November 27th as part of Glastonbury's Frost Fayre. The gift shop will be open throughout with its Victorian themed Christmas event, the abbey café will be open in the grounds to give you some respite from the crowds and there will be a combination of ladies, men's and mixed choirs performing in the Lady Chapel from 2pm with thanks to Street Sings, Street Men, Wookey Choirworks and Doulting Choir.

At 4pm the main part of the grounds will be closed to the public to ensure visitor safety in low light but the shop and café will remain open until 6pm.

New Year's Eve

The Glastonbury Abbey New Year's Eve fundraiser in the town hall is set to be a great night with the happy vibes of one of the UK's finest reggae bands "Captain Accident and the Disasters", the psychedelic mayhem of "Flipron" and potentially the world's worst karaoke session in the small hall throughout the evening. The night is hosted by award winning comedian and compere Mark Olver. Tickets are on sale now at the abbey gift shop or online at www.glastonburyabbey.com. Capacity is strictly limited.
