Pupils and coaches from Millfield School in Street enjoyed outstanding success at the 2025 Aquatics GB Awards, where past and present students and coaches were recognised with multiple honours.
Upper Sixth student Filip Nowacki was named Emerging Athlete of the Year at the event in Newport. The 18yearold from Jersey received the award after a year that included a goldmedal swim in the 100m breaststroke at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Romania, and a European Junior Championships performance where he twice broke the championship record in the 200m breaststroke and set a European junior record.
He also won gold in the 4×100m mixed medley relay with Team GB, gold in the 4×100m men's relay, and broke a British junior record on his way to gold in the 100m breaststroke.
Millfield's Head of Swimming, Keiron Piper, who supported Nowacki at the awards, was also selected for senior GB representation and had recently received coaching accolades including Youth Coach of the Year and Coaching Excellence of the Year.
Accolades were also given to former Millfield staff and alumni. Former performance coach Ryan Livingstone was joint winner of Coach of the Year, while Old Millfieldians James Guy, Matt Richards and Evan Jones were joint winners of Athlete of the Year as part of a worldchampionship winning relay team. JamesGuy additionally claimed the MauriceWatkins Champion Athlete of the Year award.
Millfield noted that its swimming programme has supported 33 Olympians to date and has had a swimmer at every Olympics since 1968, including champions such as Duncan Goodhew and Mark Foster.
As Nowacki steps up into senior GB competition and Piper continues to coach at elite level, the Streetbased school will look to build on this success in the leadup to the upcoming European Short Course Championships.
