A young footballer studying in Street has signed for Exeter City FC after impressing during an eight-week trial.

Millfield Prep Year 8 pupil Maverick Murphy will represent the League Two club's U13 side, training with Exeter City three times a week and playing matches on Sundays.

Maverick, who is from Buckinghamshire, first began playing grassroots football at the age of eight and went on to represent several local teams before arriving at Millfield Prep.

After joining the school in Year 7, he began training with youth football academy NextGen, where his performances caught the attention of Exeter City.

He was offered an eight-week trial with the club beginning in March before signing during the summer.

Maverick said: "I'm incredibly happy and proud to have been given this opportunity with Exeter FC and can't wait to keep developing my football with them."

He will continue his studies at Millfield Prep alongside the additional training and match commitments with Exeter.
