New Pickleball club - I’ll dink to that!

By Janine Denison 8th Mar 2024

Pickleball has come to Street!

If you're not a lover of pickles, don't worry – it doesn't actually involve eating.

Pickleball is a mixture of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It can be played by singles or, more commonly, by doubles.

The aim of the game is to get the ball over the net and prevent your opponents from hitting it back. Players use hard paddles, a little bigger than table tennis bats, and a light plastic ball to play.

Hosted by Millfield school, Tor Pickleball Club has been set up by Janine Denison, Sarah Orchard, Claire Davis and Lana Heath.

They organised a "launch" evening on 1 March and were joined by Councillor Bryan Knickerbocker who participated in the fun.

Bryan did warn of his competitive nature, which became immediately apparent on cour - so much so, that Tor Pickleball Club has adopted the grizzly bear as their Club mascot

There are currently around 7,000 pickleball players in the UK and it's hoped that it may become a future Olympic sport. Further information can be found on the Pickleball England website.
