Glastonbury's Dragons are preparing for their seasonal showdown during the Samhain Wild Hunt event on 26 October 2024.

Glastonbury is gearing up for its annual Samhain Wild Hunt event on Saturday, 26 October 2024, where the town's iconic Red and White Dragons will battle for seasonal supremacy. The event, which runs from 3pm to 6.40pm, is a key part of the town's celebration of Samhain, the Celtic festival marking the shift from the lighter half of the year to the darker winter months.

The day kicks off at 3pm at the Market Cross with Morris dancing from Glastonbury Border Morris and special guests. At 4pm, the much-anticipated dragon procession begins, with the Red and White Dragons, Gwyn Ap Nudd, and the Green Men of Glastonbury leading a parade down the High Street. Drummed on by the Glastonbury Dragon Drummers, the procession will stop at the Market Cross for the annual "battle for the season" between the two dragons – will Red or White come out on top this year?

After the battle, the procession continues down Benedict Street to Tor Leisure Field for a seasonal ceremony and more Morris dancing. The event will conclude at 6.40pm.

The Samhain Wild Hunt event is free and open to everyone. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the season or show their dragon allegiance by wearing red or white. The Glastonbury Dragons events, held twice a year, are entirely run by volunteers. If you're keen to get involved, either as a helper or even as one of the Dragon Legs who make the dragons walk, contact the organisers via the Glastonbury Dragons Facebook page.

With community spirit, a touch of Samhain magic, and plenty of dragon drama, this year's Wild Hunt promises to be a spectacular celebration. For more details, visit the Glastonbury Dragons Facebook page.
