The Growing Happiness Project, a community and green space in Glastonbury is at risk of closure unless a new location is found by the end of September 2024.

This initiative, hosted on land provided by Glastonbury Abbey, has thrived for over two years, enhancing the lives of hundreds through gardening and social interaction.

Located historically in the Abbey's vegetable gardens, the project has been a place for cultivating plants and fostering community spirit and mental wellness. The allotment has offered a sanctuary for those with limited mobility, providing light physical activity and a social atmosphere that's seen significant success.

Events like crafting sessions and cooking classes have turned the space into a vital community hub.

Now, as the Abbey reclaims the land for development, the project urgently needs a new green space within a 5-10 minute walk from central Glastonbury. Ideal features would include disability access, some existing green space for planting, and if possible, a water source. The community is called upon to help locate such a space or to provide support in any form.

To assist or suggest potential new locations for the Growing Happiness Project, don't hesitate to contact the Volunteer Network directly through social media, phone at 01458 836130, or email at [email protected]. Your support can ensure this valuable community resource thrives and expands its reach within Glastonbury.
