Professor Alice Roberts has been filming in Glastonbury his week for her latest historical documentary, which will explore the Arthurian period through an archaeological lens.

While full details of the programme — including its title and broadcast date — have yet to be announced, the team at the Abbey confirmed that Roberts and her crew visited the site as part of the production.

Professor Roberts also shared a photograph of her at the top of the Tor on her social media. She said: "I've had a wonderful day at Glastonbury - cooking up a new series that is as shrouded in mystery as the tor."

In a statement, the Abbey said: "We were thrilled to welcome Professor Alice Roberts and her team to the abbey yesterday! We can't wait to see what her new series has in store."

Roberts, a biological anthropologist and Professor of Public Engagement in Science at the University of Birmingham, is well known for fronting programmes like Digging for Britain, The Incredible Human Journey, and Britain's Most Historic Towns.

The upcoming series is understood to focus on real archaeological evidence from the early medieval period, rather than the myths and legends often associated with King Arthur.

However, Glastonbury's long-standing links to Arthurian folklore — including the traditional claim that the Abbey is the burial place of Arthur and Guinevere — make it a fitting location.
