Residents of Street and Glastonbury should prepare for the possibility of thunderstorms and heavy showers this Friday, from 12pm to 8pm, following a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office.

While some areas might remain dry, others could experience severe weather, including frequent lightning strikes, gusty winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Rainfall could reach 15-25mm within an hour, with isolated areas possibly seeing up to 40mm over three hours.

Motorists in Street and Glastonbury should remain cautious, as driving conditions may be worsened by spray, standing water, and even hail, leading to longer journey times.

Public transport services, including buses and trains, may also experience delays. The combination of strong winds and downpours could cause minor damage to buildings or structures in some areas.

Local authorities advise residents to prepare for potential short-term power outages. Having essentials like torches, batteries, and mobile phone power packs on hand is recommended.

Residents should avoid sheltering under trees or tall structures that could be struck by lightning if caught outside. The weather is expected to ease in the evening, but the Met Office warns conditions could change rapidly, and it is advisable to stay updated with local weather reports throughout the day.
