Sunshine, tunes, and a bustling crowd: Merriman Park Fun Day in Street ends summer on a high note

By Laura Linham 4th Sep 2023

A wave of community support flooded Merriman Park on Saturday for the annual Fun Day in Street.

The event, which lasted from 1pm to 10pm, aimed to raise money for the local park's maintenance and improvement.

Just a few days before the school holidays ended and everyone goes back to school, the sun finally decided to make an appearance, bringing 24 degree weather and clear skies.

This year's festivities boasted a record number of stalls, along with an assortment of food and drink options, live music, and performances. The entertainment line-up was diverse, featuring Street Drum and Trumpet Corps, Doryoku Ryu Karate, the Glastonbury Dragon Drummers, Tor Mini Rugby and Twiglet Time.

Meanwhile, the music came courtesy of Absolute Zero, Bernie Lock's disco, Michael Jackson tribute Em-Jay and The Shuffles Band.

Mike Linham, a spokesman for Merriman Park Community Group said: "It certainly was a super day with excellent attendance - obviously helped by the gorgeous weather. All the stalls seemed busy and the area performances and the evening music were all well received. On to the next one!"
