Street Parish Council has approved a balanced budget of £853,022 for the 2026/27 financial year, with a precept increase of just 1.29%. The parish precept for a Band D property will rise by only 7 pence to £215.01 for the year.

A precept is the portion of Council Tax collected by the local authority to fund parish or town council services.

Most households in Street are in Council Tax Bands A to C, meaning they will pay less than the Band D figure in practice.

Council chair Cllr Bryan Knickerbocker said the budget reflects "a careful and balanced approach" amid ongoing cost pressures and a slight increase in the tax base.

"We fully understand that residents are feeling the pressure of rising costs, which is why we have taken a careful and balanced approach to setting this year's budget," he said.

"Street continues to operate with a relatively low precept while serving a large population. This year's budget reflects the responsible use of public funds, protects essential local services and keeps the cost to residents to a minimum, while allowing us to move forward with important improvements to play areas and continue supporting the local services and facilities that Streetonians value."

Planned investment includes improvements to play areas at Bove Moor Road and other open spaces, continued support for Street Library, and community safety measures such as CCTV monitoring and expansion of the 20 mph zone.

The council also confirmed continued operation of Street Market and the Festive Market, plus funding for events including the annual Remembrance Day service and Community Awards.
