Street Parish Council seeks new faces as councillor seats open

Street Parish Council is on the lookout for two new councillors, and local residents have just days to step forward.
The vacancies are open for immediate co-option, offering the chance to get directly involved in decisions that affect the parish. No election will be held, so this is a direct call for community-minded volunteers to put their names forward.
Anyone interested must complete a co-option questionnaire and return it to the Parish Clerk by Wednesday 10 September. Applicants will then be considered at the council's next meeting on Tuesday 16 September at Crispin Community Centre, starting at 7 pm.
To apply, email Clerk Jenny at [email protected] or call 01458 440588 for more details.
What does a parish councillor actually do?
Parish councils are the first tier of local government. They do not run bin collections or fix the roads, but they do have real influence over the things that shape day-to-day life in the community.
Councillors are unpaid volunteers who represent residents and help decide how local funds are spent. They sit on committees, review planning applications, push for improvements to parks, footpaths, and community facilities, and act as a voice for Street within the wider district council structure.
You do not need political experience or party backing. Most parish councillors are simply local people with a bit of time and a strong connection to the area.
In Street, the council meets monthly, usually at Crispin Community Centre. Councillors are expected to attend meetings, read agenda papers, and contribute to discussions. Some take on extra responsibilities, such as chairing committees or leading projects, but others provide consistent input on what the community needs.
If you care about where you live and want to make a difference, this is a real opportunity to get involved.
