A Street man is due to appear in court today accused of breaching a stalking order and harassing a serving MP.

Simon Williams, 41, of Strode Road, was arrested in Street last week and is set to face District Judge Angela Brereton at Yeovil Magistrates' Court.

Williams has previously been charged with harassing Labour MP Zarah Sultana, who represents Coventry South, between 6 February and 23 May last year. Prosecutors allege he sent Ms Sultana 48 emails and six unwanted letters while serving a sentence at HMP Bristol.

After his release, it is claimed he continued to contact her, including sending further emails, voicemails, and a letter while on bail with conditions not to do so.

He is also accused of breaching a stalking protection order imposed by Somerset Magistrates in August 2024, with claims he contacted Ms Sultana on six occasions by email despite the restrictions.

Prosecutor Giles Tippett has confirmed Williams is also due before magistrates in Taunton today (15 January) in connection with separate allegations involving another MP.
