Glastonbury 75ft mobile mast approved after 232 objections

A 22.85-metre mobile phone mast planned for Glastonbury's Thomas Way Industrial Estate has been approved by Somerset Council, after 232 objections were recorded against the scheme.
The council gave prior approval on 23 October for the lattice tower, which will carry six antennas and a transmission dish. The application tracker records 276 comments in total: 232 objections, 38 neutral responses and six in support.
The mast will be built on land off Porchestall Drove. The plans also include equipment cabinets and a fenced compound.
The applicant says the tower is needed to replace an existing communications site about 120 metres away, which must be removed because the land is required for redevelopment. It says a replacement is needed to maintain mobile coverage and capacity in the area, including upgraded 4G and 5G services.
Nub News reported the plans in August. The latest decision means the proposal has moved from an application to an approved development.
