Street Library has been secured for the next seven years after a new Community Library Partnership came into effect on Monday, 1 June 2026.

The agreement has been reached between Street Parish Council, Somerset Council and the Friends of Street Library.

The deal is intended to give long-term certainty to the village library and protect access to services for local residents.

Street Parish Council said the agreement would support continued access to books, information, digital services, learning opportunities and community activities for people of all ages.

Former Street Parish Council chair Cllr Bryan Knickerbocker said he was pleased the seven-year agreement had been reached.

He said it provided "stability and certainty" for Street Library and reflected "the value that residents place on this important community facility".

He added: "This agreement demonstrates what can be achieved when organisations work together in the best interests of local communities."

The parish council also praised the Friends of Street Library, whose volunteers have supported activities, raised funds and championed the library locally.

It said their work had played a significant part in the success of the Community Library Partnership and would remain important during the new agreement.

The library partnership will now provide the framework for continued library services in Street until 2033.

For more information, residents can contact Street Parish Council clerk Jenny Service on 01458 440588 or at [email protected].
