The 2024 Street Festive Market, scheduled for this Saturday, has been cancelled due to safety concerns arising from severe weather forecasts.

Organisers announced the decision following an amber warning for wind and a yellow warning for rain issued by the Met Office.

The amber warning, which highlights "likely severe" weather, prompted organisers to consult experts and consider the safety of traders, stewards, and visitors. Strong winds and heavy rain were deemed to pose significant risks, making it unsafe to proceed with the event.

In a statement, organisers said: "We regret that the 2024 Street Festive Market cannot go ahead. This decision was not taken lightly, but the safety of everyone involved must come first. The risks are simply too great under the expected weather conditions."

The team behind the market thanked the community for their patience and understanding and expressed hope for a brighter future: "We are incredibly grateful for your continued support and are already looking forward to making next year's market the best yet."

Severe weather is expected to impact the area throughout the weekend, with gusts of up to 80mph forecast in some parts of Somerset. Residents are advised to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
