As the festive season reaches its crescendo, Street and Glastonbury are buzzing with an eclectic mix of events that promise to sprinkle a little extra magic over the holidays.

So, grab your calendars, folks – it's going to be a jolly jaunt through joyous jamboree!

A special thank you to The King Arthur on Benedict Street - not only do they host a fantastic array of live music events in the town, but they also generously sponsor our 'What's On' section, making this article possible.

Kickstarting the festivities on 20th December, we have A Magical Midwinter Concert of Solstice Songs at St Benedict's Church in Glastonbury. From 19:30 to 21:00, this concert is set to warm your hearts with soulful melodies.

Amidst the festive frolics and yuletide cheer, let's not forget the spiritual heart of Christmas with a series of heartwarming church services.

On Christmas Eve in Street, start with an 8.30am Holy Communion at Street Parish Church, followed by family-friendly Crib Services at 3pm both at Street Mission Church and St Andrew's in Compton Dundon.

For a later gathering, Holy Trinity Walton offers a 4.30pm Crib Service, with Street Parish Church hosting a 10pm Christmas Eve Communion.

As the clock strikes towards Christmas Day, join the Midnight Communion at Holy Trinity Walton at 11.30pm.

On Christmas Day, celebrate with a 10am Holy Communion at St Andrew's Compton Dundon, and a 10.30am All Age Communion at Street Mission Church.

These services offer a moment of reflection and community spirit amidst the seasonal excitement.

Elsewhere, on 21st December, as the shortest day of the year looms, why not join the Winter Solstice Community Celebration at The Assembly Rooms? Starting at 19:30, immerse yourself in a night of community spirit. Not enough solstice for you? There's also the Winter Solstice Celebration with Dragonsfly at 20:00 in the Red Brick Building, where the rhythm of the night will resonate through Glastonbury.

Dragonsfly will be playing at the Red Brick Building

For those who enjoy a good beat, Onset of Bass 2 will be shaking the foundations of The King Arthur on 22nd December from evening till the wee hours of 23rd December. If mellower tunes are more your style, Sarah Curtis and Sarah Mooney will be gracing St Benedict's Church with their melodious presence from 19:00 to 22:00 on the same night.

Take a nature-infused break on 23rd December with the Winter Solstice Tree Walk - Special Edition, meeting in St John's Churchyard at 11:00. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature's wonders.

Later, at 18:00, don't miss Glastonbury's Yuletide Merry Moot at the Sambogaya Boutique Hostel & Retreat Venue, followed by the Festive Funky Avalonian Soul sessions at The Riflemans Arms at 21:00.

Glastonbury Town Council, in collaboration with dedicated volunteers, is hosting a festive Community Christmas Lunch. This heartwarming event will be held on 25th December 2023, from 1pm to 3.30pm at the town hall. The lunch is a gesture of goodwill and togetherness, aimed at ensuring no one in the community has to spend Christmas Day alone.

It's an opportunity for residents to enjoy a festive meal and the company of others in the iconic setting of the Glastonbury Town Hall.

Understanding the importance of accessibility, the Town Council offers transport within a 5-mile radius for those who require it. Residents needing this service can contact the Town Council Reception Office, which is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. Requests for transport should be made before 4pm on 22nd December 2023, as the offices will be closed for the Christmas holidays from the 23rd December.

The lunch is free to attend, but any donations made will be gratefully accepted and used to support the Christmas Lunch in 2024.

Post-Christmas, Boxing Day isn't left out, with Mi Vida Loca at The King Arthur from 20:00, offering a great excuse to dance off those Christmas feasts.

Finally, as we bid adieu to 2023, Glastonbury and Street are hosting some dazzling New Year's Eve bashes. Choose your style – be it the New Year's Eve Bash at The Lion in West Pennard from 18:00, the Down The Arthur NYE special at The King Arthur, the New Year's Eve: Mardi Gras Carnival Party at the Red Brick Building, or The Golden Guild New Years Bonanza at The Riflemans Arms.

So, folks, wrap up warm, step out, and immerse yourself in the vibrant festivities that Street and Glastonbury have to offer this season. Who said winters were for hibernating?
