Street and Glastonbury set for GP boost with new rooms
By Laura Linham 23rd Mar 2026
Patients in Street and Glastonbury are set for a GP boost as both local surgeries gain extra clinical rooms under NHS-backed improvement works across Somerset. The shake-up was first announced in May 2025, with NHS Somerset now setting out how the works will create more space to treat patients across the county.
For Street, the biggest change is at Vine Surgery on Hindhayes Lane, where three new clinical rooms are due to open above the dental practice from 1 April after work to convert existing administration space was completed. In Glastonbury, the surgery on Feversham Lane is also being reworked, with two new clinical rooms being created through internal reconfiguration.
That puts Street and Glastonbury firmly in the spotlight locally, with both surgeries set to get more room for appointments, treatment and extra services closer to home.
A spokesperson for the Vine Surgery Partnership said: "This is an exciting new chapter for us."
They added: "The additional space will allow us to grow, enhance our patient experience, and introduce new services to better support our community's health and well-being."
The partnership also said: "We're incredibly proud of how far we've come and can't wait to welcome you into this new and improved space."
NHS Somerset said the work is not about building huge new surgery extensions, but about making smarter use of existing space inside practices. A spokesperson said: "These projects are small in scale and have centred around internal reconfiguration and adaptation of existing accommodation to create additional clinical areas for the treatment of patients, rather than the physical expansion or extension of GP practice accommodation."
They added: "Building works are at a variety of stages – some have been completed and other are ongoing."
While Street and Glastonbury are the clearest local names for readers here, they are part of a much wider Somerset scheme. Other surgeries included are Axbridge Surgery, Wedmore Medical Practice, Beckington Family Practice, Church Street Surgery in Martock, Crewkerne Health Centre, East Quay Medical Centre in Bridgwater, Highbridge Medical Centre, Lister House Surgery in Wiveliscombe, Millbrook Surgery in Castle Cary, Polden Medical Practice in Edington, Warwick House Medical Centre in Taunton and Wincanton Health Centre.
Across the county, NHS Somerset said the programme would deliver at least 25 new clinical rooms across 16 sites. It has not given a project-by-project funding breakdown, citing commercial sensitivity.
