Street and Glastonbury passed over in roadworks list
By Laura Linham 1st Apr 2026
Street and Glastonbury have been left off Somerset Council's published list of key roads due for surface dressing this spring and summer.
While routes in and around Wells and Shepton Mallet have made the cut, neither Street nor Glastonbury is named in the council's rundown of major roads set for the treatment.
In the Mendip area, the council has highlighted the A37 between Shepton Mallet and Gurney Slade and the A371 between Wells and Shepton Mallet. But for people in Street and Glastonbury scanning the list for their own town, there is no mention so far.
Surface dressing is used to seal a road, improve skid resistance and stop water getting beneath the surface — helping to hold potholes back before they take hold. The process involves spraying bitumen onto the road, laying stone chippings and rolling them in.
Somerset Council says the work is carried out on roads that are still in good condition to help extend their life.
