The Environment Agency has issued a Be Prepared flood alert for the Glastonbury following heavy overnight rainfall.

The agency says flooding is possible for the Rivers Brue, Sheppey, Glastonbury Millstream and North and South Drains.

River levels have risen at the Bruton Dam river gauge as a result of heavy overnight rainfall. Consequently, flooding of low lying roads and farmland is possible today (Saturday February 29).

An agency spokesperson said: "We believe there is a possibility of flooding for the B3151 Glastonbury to Meare Road.

"Overtopping is forecast from the Glastonbury Millstream and the River Brue at North Drain and Westhay.

"The River Brue is forecast to be bank-full upstream of Bruton Dam with field flooding likely. We expect river levels to remain high throughout Saturday.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses."
