Work powers ahead at Glastonbury's new health and wellbeing hub

The transformation of a historic Glastonbury building into a state-of-the-art health and wellbeing centre is picking up speed — and locals won't have long to wait before they can step inside.
Scaffolding has come down at the front of the new-look St. Dunstan's House, revealing a striking glazed atrium that now links the building with Glastonbury Town Hall.
Restoration work began on St Dunstan's House last year, with local firm Melhuish and Saunders leading the project.
A solar roof has also been completed, wiring is in full swing, and preparations are under way for glass installation this September.

Inside, builders have laid floor boxes and insulation in the atrium ahead of underfloor heating. The first floor is getting a makeover too, with fresh decoration, restored features, new light fittings and flooring on the way.
Elsewhere, asbestos tiles on the porch have been replaced with natural slate, and balcony base stones are now ready for timber finishing. A new lift has been installed, making the entire building fully accessible. The Changing Places toilet is also close to completion.

Set to open later this year, the revamped St. Dunstan's House will serve as a Community Health and Wellbeing Centre, offering everything from NHS support to fitness sessions and local events. It's all part of Glastonbury's £23.6 million Town Deal — a huge investment in the town's future.

Plans include health services delivered by the Primary Care Network alongside Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, wellbeing activities run by SASP, and tailored community programmes shaped by local feedback.

With every passing week, the centre moves closer to opening its doors — and becoming a new home for health, support and connection in the heart of Glastonbury.
