Brookside Colour Run raises over £6,000 in memory of Olivia

Street community comes together for day of colour, joy and remembrance in support of bereavement charity 2Wish

More than £6,000 has been raised at this year's Brookside Academy Colour Run in Street — held in memory of a little girl who left a big impact.

The event, organised by Friends of Brookside and supported by local businesses, raised a total of £6,004.72 for 2Wish Cymru, a charity supporting families affected by the sudden death of a child or young adult. The run was held in tribute to Olivia, the 15-month-old daughter of staff member Mrs Foster, who died suddenly in October 2023.

Held on Saturday 21 June, the event saw Brookside Academy transformed into a high-energy celebration of colour and community. DJ Bernie got the crowd going before teachers led the first run at 11am, with music, refreshments and plenty of surprises along the route. The final run wrapped up around 12.30pm, with dozens taking part and many more turning out to support.

Olivia's family say they try to live by the motto Be More Like Olivia — a phrase that inspired the entire event.

"We will be forever grateful for the time we had with Olivia," said Mrs Foster. "She was such a bundle of fun. We are thankful that she only ever knew fun, love and happiness in her life. We try to find positives, enjoy the time we're given and support others — just like she did."

Among the local businesses supporting the day was Glastonbury-based firm Melhuish & Saunders. Team member Darryl helped run the refreshments stand and praised the atmosphere.

"It was a great event and one not to forget," he said. "Everyone looked like they were having fun and making memories. Community spirit is so important — and this event had it in abundance."

Other sponsors included Concept Products Ltd, Ground Regeneration, AG, Stonehill Tiling and Bathrooms, The Sleek Easy, and Min2Max Retailing.

The event was praised as a touching and uplifting tribute — and one that brought the community together around a powerful cause.
