Glastonbury care home seeks volunteers and part-time cook
By Laura Linham 10th Apr 2026
A Glastonbury care home is calling on local people to get involved — with an opening for volunteers and a paid kitchen role now available.
Glastonbury Care Home says it is looking for volunteers who can spare an hour or two to help with gardening, light DIY and simple craft sessions aimed at making life brighter for residents.
Staff say the appeal is not about formal qualifications or specialist skills. Instead, they are looking for people with time, patience and a willingness to chat, help out and bring fresh energy into the home.
One team member said: "We're not asking for much — just a bit of time and kindness. The residents love seeing new faces, especially when there's laughter and chatter involved."
The home says volunteers could be helping with anything from planting bulbs to making decorations and improving communal spaces.
The message from staff is that even a small amount of time can go a long way. As well as helping residents, the home says volunteering can bring wider benefits for those taking part, including new skills, valuable experience, greater confidence, new friendships and a stronger sense of connection to the local community.
It also points to the personal benefits many volunteers say they gain, including improved physical and mental wellbeing, the chance to give something back and the opportunity to show commitment while helping improve things for others.
Alongside the volunteer appeal, the home is also advertising a part-time cook role.
The Brunelcare role is based in Glastonbury and offers £13.31 to £14.61 an hour. According to the advert, the successful applicant would support the Head Chef with planning, preparing and serving meals for residents and visitors, while maintaining cleanliness and health and safety standards in the kitchen.
Previous experience in a catering environment is listed as essential, along with the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
Taken together, the opportunities mean local people can support the home in more than one way — either by giving their time as a volunteer or by applying for a paid role.
Anyone interested in volunteering is being encouraged to contact Glastonbury Care Home directly for more information.
